Psalm 111

Alleluia! Laud and blessing
To our God, whose Word is sure;
By whose grace we find redemption,
In whose love we live secure,
Righteousness and rich compassion
Shall attend us all our days;
May God’s promise to be faithful
Echo through our songs of praise!

Alleluia! God sustains us;
Matchless are the gifts we share:
Light in darkness, hope in conflict,
Answers to our deepest prayer.
Ours to give as we are given:
Arms to life when others fall;
Images of God’s great goodness,
Faithful servants to God’s call.

Alleluia holy Parent,
all your children now reclaim;
may our lives reflect your justice,
heirs to your most sacred name.
fill our hearts with understanding ,
grace our weakness by your might
awesome honour born in wisdom
your great glory, our delight!

What a great Psalm of praise!  2022 is a special year of memorable celebrations. Still the Platinum Jubilee celebrations of Her Majesty The Queen are very fresh in our memories. We are delighted to celebrate the URC 50th Anniversary this year. We are very grateful to God for these celebrations. This is a time of joy and happiness and, as believers, we need to sing praises.

Psalm 111 is all about praising God, it starts with the call to worship. We are encouraged to praise the Lord with our whole heart, personally and publicly. There are plenty of genuine reasons given by the Psalmist for this enthusiastic praise. There are various wonderful works of the Lord in creation, as the heavens declare the glory of God and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.

God’s love, compassion, grace, and mercy, majesty, justice, guidance, providence, are reason enough to praise Him. In the Old Testament, we remember how miraculously God redeemed his own chosen nation from the slavery of Egypt and led them to the Promised Land. The New Testament tells the plan of God for our redemption through Jesus. God made a covenant with Abraham, Israel and new covenant described by Jesus on Maundy Thursday. God gave us eternal life through Jesus. He performed many miracles, wonders and signs. My dear brothers and sisters as we are celebrating together, we also need to remember that this praise, worship and adoration is not for this year but till the last breath of life we should continue it. May God give us wisdom to be His true witnesses.

Gracious Father, full of compassion, who is worthy to be praised.
We praise you wholeheartedly.
We thank you for your every small and great work in this universe and within us.
We ask your blessings for the global Church and especially for URC, that as we celebrate the 50th anniversary, we ask your guidance for everyone. Help us to share good news with people around us. In Jesus’ precious name, we ask.    Amen.
